**VEED** (VEED.io) is a browser-based video editor and AI video platform aimed at marketers, founders and creators who need polished video without professional editing skills. It was founded in London on March 20, 2018 by Sabba Keynejad (CEO) and Tim Mamedov (CTO), and it runs as a remote-first team of more than 150 people. In 2022 it raised $35 million from Sequoia Capital. VEED began as an online editor. By 2026 it has become a mix of editor, generation platform and developer API, and in August 2026 it released an open-source pipeline that lets AI coding agents edit video.

### Products (October 2026)

- **The editor:** a web-based timeline with brand kits (logos, colors and fonts), templates, stock media and automatic [subtitles](https://metavert.io/auto-captions) with translation into more than 100 languages.
- **AI generation:** text-to-video and image-to-video, AI avatars, lip sync and "faceless" video formats for social channels.
- **Fabric 1.0:** VEED's own talking-video model, launched through its API in 2025 and also offered on [fal](https://metavert.io/fal). It takes a still image and an audio track and animates the face, head and hands to match the speech, at 480p or 720p for up to a minute. VEED prices it from 8 cents a second, by its own figures.
- **Developer APIs:** generation, background removal and other production workloads.

Fabric puts VEED in the same territory as avatar specialists such as [HeyGen](https://metavert.io/heygen) and [Synthesia](https://metavert.io/synthesia) (see [digital humans](https://metavert.io/digital-humans) and [audio-to-video generation](https://metavert.io/audio-to-video)), though VEED's emphasis is quick social content rather than enterprise training video.

### OpenEdit

OpenEdit, announced on August 4, 2026 and updated on August 19, is VEED's "open-source, agent-driven video editing pipeline". It has no timeline of its own. An AI agent writes the video as HTML and CSS compositions, and VEED's engine renders them on the user's machine without a headless browser, which VEED says is up to 2.2 times faster than Chrome-based rendering (rendering through Chrome is also an option). The pipeline is open source under Apache-2.0, while the renderer binaries are closed but free under PolyForm Shield 1.0.0. VEED tested it with [Claude Code](https://metavert.io/claude-code), [Codex](https://metavert.io/codex) and Gemini CLI, and it installs as an agent skill with one command (`npx skills add veedstudio/open-edit`; see [SKILL.md](https://metavert.io/SKILL.md)). At launch it ran only on Apple-silicon Macs with macOS 26; its README now also lists Windows 10+ and Linux. Through a VEED account it can transcribe footage and generate footage, images, music and sound effects with Fabric.

OpenEdit is a clear instance of [video as code](https://metavert.io/video-as-code): the edit is text an agent writes and a renderer turns into frames. It sits alongside Remotion's Agent Skills in the spec-first approach to [agentic video editing](https://metavert.io/agentic-video-editing).

### How It Compares

As an editor, VEED competes with other browser and creator tools: Kapwing, Canva, [CapCut](https://metavert.io/capcut) and [Descript](https://metavert.io/descript). It's simpler than professional editors and stronger on templates, subtitles and quick social formats. As an agent platform, OpenEdit is unusual: most editors that agents can drive expose a cloud MCP server tied to the vendor's app (see [video editing MCP servers](https://metavert.io/video-editing-mcp)). OpenEdit instead gives the agent an open pipeline it runs locally. Its trade-offs are a young codebase, a closed renderer and generation features that depend on a VEED account. For how these tools fit together, see [AI video editing](https://metavert.io/ai-video-editing).
