Cathy Hackl and Jon Radoff on Avatars and Digital Fashion

Originally Broadcast: January 25, 2022

Avatars are a way for you project your identity into virtual space. In the metaverse, this will also mean the ability to transport your identity from place to place, or to take on different identities as your mood or the experience calls for. Along with that is the rise of digital fashion: both a new form of self-expression and a boon to the creator economy for artists and designers. We discuss Roblox, avatar platforms including Ready Player Me, as well as digital fashion platforms such as Fabricant and others who are building within the blockchain/NFT ecosystem.

Cathy Hackl: So I see this shift happening in how we express ourselves, right, through, you know, through emojis. And I see that that being extended into these virtual spaces in how we express ourselves with our avatars, to become emotional surgeons, right, of who we are and how we express ourselves. So how we show up in these spaces is very important.

Cathy Hackl: In this episode of Building the Metaverse with Jon Radoff, John Steadl with Kathy Hackle. Kathy is a globally recognized Metaverse expert, tech futurists,

And I think that's why I think that's why I think that's why I think like HTC Vive, Magic Leap, and Amazon Web Services. She's the CEO of the Future Intelligence Group, a leading Metaverse consultancy working with the world's top brands on Metaverse growth strategies, NFTs, gaming, virtual fashion, and how to expand their brands into virtual worlds. Let's jump into this fireside chat.

Jon Radoff: All right, welcome Kathy to Building the Metaverse. I'm super excited to have you here because I've been following for the last year your work on the Metaverse, which is very, very broad. Like it covers a lot of ground. What I was really intrigued by what I wanted to talk about today, though, is this whole notion of digital fashion, self-expression, avatars. That's a conversation we can just go on and on and on with. But maybe we can start there. Like fashion. What do you think people should understand about this whole idea of digital fashion? How does it relate to physical fashion?
