Mistral is a French AI company building open-weight large language models that compete with frontier models at significantly smaller parameter counts. Efficient Frontier Models

Mistral's defining contribution is demonstrating that thoughtful architecture and training can produce models that punch well above their weight class. Mistral 7B outperformed models with 3-4x more parameters at release. The Mixtral mixture-of-experts architecture further demonstrated efficiency gains by activating only a subset of parameters per token.
